Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program will be awarding 100 vehicles to 100 nonprofits across the country over the course of 100 days based on votes from the public. A total of 500 nonprofits were selected from more than 4,000 applications nationwide. We are hoping to win a new Sienna to help Adventure Science Center continue to present a busy schedule of critical community outreach programs to over 25,000 students each year.
Currently, educators depend on a staff owned 17 year old SUV that has clocked more than 155,000 miles for 75% of the Center’s outreach programs. Educators transport from 50 to 1,000 pounds of program supplies to schools, libraries and community centers within a 100 mile radius of the science center in staff owned vehicles. Outreach programs include:
- iHealth Diabetes Prevention Program: year-round activities centering around preventative health at local public schools.
- Digital Exploration Learning Lab: a three session design and animation lab using up to 20 laptops.
- 'Science On the Go': a series of high-interest STEM programs that are adaptable to support Tennessee grade level expectations for grades K-8. Programs include hands-on activities related to renewable energy, robotic engineering, squid dissections and more.
